Seeding

Here at Esch Landscaping, we offer all three types of lawn installation to get your lawn established: seed and straw blanket, hydroseed, and sod. Each option has its benefits and disadvantages. Check out the pros and cons of each below and contact us today to see which option is best for your property.

Seed & Straw Blanket

Grass seed is the cheapest way to install a new yard; however, you have to be cautious of birds and animals displacing the seed. In every lawn that Esch Landscaping seeds, we install straw blanket to help protect the seed from wildlife, and to help keep the ground moisture levels up. The best time to plant grass seed is in the fall or spring.

  • Pros:  Least expensive option, healthiest long-term solution

  • Cons:  slowest to see grass, still needs to be properly irrigated

Hydroseeding

Most consumers believe that hydroseeding is a miracle mixture, but the truth is it needs a lot of water since there is fertilizer mixed in with the seed. It is less expensive than sod but more expensive than seeding. If properly cared for, you can see a green yard in approx. 4-6 weeks. Esch Landscaping will hydroseed a lawn of the right size and with the proper irrigation.

  • Pros:  Grows quick (under proper care)

  • Cons:  Lots and lots of watering required, can’t play on grass for 3 months

Sod

Sod is the quickest way to receive an installed lawn; however, it is the most expensive to buy and install. Although you will receive a fresh, green lawn the day it is installed, sod still requires proper and frequent watering, to avoid shrinking at the seams.

  • Pros:  Instant grass, play on it right away

  • Cons:  Most expensive, still have to water, less healthy long-term than seed
